Gena Parsons anchors “Morning Magazine” on Mondays and fills in for News Director Bill Becker and Assistant News Director Ezra Marcus. Gena is also a reporter and photographer for Cooke Communications producing stories and pictures for The Citizen as well as magazines including Keys Style.
With a bachelor of journalism degree from the University of Texas, Gena’s broadcasting career covered Texas and Oklahoma including anchoring news on KVET-AM in Austin and WTAW-AM in Bryan/College Station. She also worked at KCEN-TV and KXXV-TV in Waco, KTBC-TV in Austin, KOTV-TV in Tulsa, and KBTX-TV in Bryan/College Station as a news and sports reporter/photographer, producer and executive producer.
Gena also has extensive public relations and marketing experience, primarily in higher education, with a specialty in crisis communications. She holds a graduate certificate in Advanced International Affairs from the George H. W. Bush School at Texas A&M University where she concentrated on national security and crisis management.
Gena, her husband Dwayne and son Hayden moved to the Florida Keys in 2010, making them freshwater Conchs. They enjoy all that the Keys have to offer, especially the gorgeous water around their Sugarloaf Key home. She serves her community by volunteering with Key West Sunrise Rotary, the Sugarloaf Shores Property Owners Association, the Monroe County Coalition and Special Olympics Monroe County.
